The Brief

This picture was a retirement present of the recipients’ classic car. I loved drawing this car as it had a number of different challenging elements to it. The colour of the car created a challenge for me as I normally have a colour I can use in my collection of pencils which I can change depending on how hard or lightly I apply and blend the colour. In this case I had to make the colour from scratch to ensure the colour of the body paint was correct.

The Result

I put in 30 Hours of work on this drawing and the results speak for themselves. I was able to match the colour of the car exactly by creating my own blend of colour for the paintwork on the car. I incorporated a lot of detail on the floor around the car and the evergreen next to it, which is crucial for a front elevation object to depict its’ scale and length. The detail gradually merges with the less detailed background to show things better in the near distance and the far distance. The client was very happy with this drawing and said the drawing looked like a photo.
