The Brief

This illustration was a portrait of the client’s Saluki called Oz. Oz has been shown in dog competitions before and his owner has a real passion for the breed. Oz was in his latter stage of life and his owner wanted a picture she could treasure of him when he was no longer here. I was more than happy to oblige, and I love drawing animals so this was a pleasure to do.

The Result

The final drawing took just over 30 hours to complete, I took inspiration from Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous portrait “Lady with Ermine”. If you look at the drawing of Oz and this particular painting side by side you will see what I mean. I drew him in the renaissance style as I wanted to capture the regal elegance of Oz. She told me that I had truly reflected his style and personality in this picture, she stated “It’s him”.
