The Brief

These two bee pictures were at the request of a friend of mine who loves botanical and wildlife artwork. I have a passion for wildlife and in particular bees and I am fiercely protective of them. We have created a floral haven for them in our garden which has enabled me to capture dozens of photos of bees and other flora and fauna which I use to produce drawings from. I used one of these photos to produce this drawing.

The Result

This only took me 7 hours to draw, given that the drawing itself is not very big, and the plant it is hovering over is also small. I drew this in the style of the illustrations that you see in old wildlife books. I think some of those illustrations in those older reference books are works of art in their own right and wanted to produce the same sort of result here.
