THE BRIEF: I had been asked by many people if I had time for original commissions, which sadly, I don’t. The number of people wanting original artworks was unreal, and ended up with me deciding that I won’t do commissions, but I could do some small limited edition original drawings which fitted in with the Dragon theme. I wanted the art work to look like you had gone into the castle archives in the 11th century. Leafing through the archives to see which dragons harassed the Kingdoms through the ages. I decided to draw these dragons in the medieval style, which doesn’t take as much time to do and requires much less detail as they are stylised. Vellum is a beautiful material to work on, and this is calfskin vellum, which is considered the very best vellum to work on. If looked after, this drawing could very well last more than a 1000 years without deteriorating. I will add some care instructions on how to take care of this piece, how to handle and frame this if you purchase it.
**WARNING** VELLUM IS THE SKIN OF AN ANIMAL AND IS THEREFORE AN ANIMAL PRODUCT.
THE RESULT: The result is the dangerously coloured “Maleficus”. “Maleficus” means “evil doing”, “wicked” or “criminal”. I wanted this dragon to look like a dangerous poison lizard in it’s colouration. This particular dragon is certainly demonic in appearance.
